Usirikaya chutney

Ingredients:
  • 10 to 12 usirikayalu/gooseberrys/Amlas
  • 2 table spoons chana dal
  • 1 table spoon urad dal
  • 1 tea spoon rai
  • 1 tea spoon jeera
  • 7 to 8 garlic pods
  • few curry leaves
  • 5 to 8 red chillies
  • 5 to 6 green chilles
  • 1/2 tea spoon red chilli powder
  • 1/4 tea spoon haldi
  • 2 tea spoons salt (as per taste)
  • 1 tea spoon sugar or jaggery (Optional)
  • 3 to 4 table spoons of oil
  • Half lemon size tamarind
  • A pinch of hing
Method:  
Heat 2 table spoons of oil in a pan.  Fry rai, jeera, urad dal and chanadal.  When the dals turn to golden color remove them into a bowl.  In the same oil fry green chillies and red chillies separately and keep the in the bowl.  Let them cool.
